Nintendo Wii is 6 Times More Energy-Efficient than Xbox 360 and PS3

A group of scientists from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) decided to carry out a study that would reveal the world's most energy-efficient console.They tested three most popular consoles: Microsoft Xbox 360, SonyPlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii.

Researchers discovered that for an hour of activity Sony PlayStation 3 used an average 84.8 watts, Microsoft Xbox 360 - 87.9 watts and Nintendo Wii - 13.7 watts.
According to Mark McGranaghan, the Vice President of Power Delivery & Utilization for EPRI, such a difference between energy efficiency registered by the Wii and its two rivals is most likely linked with the graphic quality. Microsoft and Sony have their devices equipped with more powerful graphics processors than the Wii.
But researchers thought about taking their study further and found that an average gamer uses their console for 5 hours and 45 minutes each day. This means that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation require an average of 184 kilowatt hours and 178 kilowatt hours respectively - almost like a washing machine. On the other side the Wii consumes only 29 kilowatt hours - almost like a linear fluorescent light.
